Attractions in Dominica

Dominica is one of the poorest and least developed islands in the Caribbean. You can not find any casinos, large resorts and even road signboards. This is also considered as the less expensive island in the Caribbean and perhaps the only island that Columbus would still identify. The beaches are not attractive to visit, but the landscapes and rivers of Dominica and the famous scuba diving are really interesting to enjoy. If you visit Dominica, you can see wild and rocky Caribbean locations.

Attractions in Dominica Carib Indian Reservation

If you are going for a trip to Dominica you can see the Carib Indian Reservation located in the northeast. In the year 1903, Britain got the existing Caribs to accept to live in 3,656 acres of land. At present this reservation land is the last enduring territory of the hostile tribe whom the Caribbean was named. Fishing, growing food and weaving baskets and vetiver-grass mats are the major survival options of the people, and they are marketing in the outside world. You can get good quality of baskets on the roadside. It is interesting to see the Caribs making the traditional dugout canoes.

Morne Trois Pitons National Park

Morne Trois Pitons National Park is an ancient rainforest. Dominica is considered as "Switzerland of the Caribbean", because of its mists over lush, dark green escalation and blue and green peaks. Massive ferns surround this park includes rivers rush, tumble, trees sprout orchids, and the spectacular scene of sunlight filters down through trees and thriving waterfalls that produces a blue mist. Laudat is the starting point to reach this peak, and it is situated 11 kms from Roseau.

Rain Forest Aerial Tram

You can see the Rain Forest aerial tram at the corner of Great George Street and Old Street in Ladat. But you can see only if any cruise ships are in port. It is possible to take a 90-minute tour starts from the village Laudat, seafaring over the rainforest all the way through Morne Trois Pitons National Park, and the charge is just US $55. While sailing you can enjoy the interesting bird life, wonderful waterfalls and many tropical plants.

Trafalgar Falls

You can easily reach Trafalgar Falls from Roseau River Valley, which is located in the south central region of Dominica by just 5 miles drive. You have to cross the Trafalgar Village to reach the Trafalgar Falls. You can hire a guide from the hut in the village of Trafalgar to reach the actual falls. It will take 1-½ hours to reach the falls from the village. There is no other way to reach the falls; the path is full of slopes and too steep for vehicles. To reach the base of the falls you have to travel through the ginger plants and vanilla orchids, the travel will take approximately 20 minutes.
