Attractions in Trinidad and Tobago

The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, colloquially known as the Trinidad and Tobago is an island country situated in the south of the Caribbean Sea. The country covers a total land area of 5,128 square kilometers with an estimated population of 1,047,366. The country has two major islands- Trinidad and Tobago of which Trinidad is the largest one with a majority of population residing here. Tobago is somewhat a smaller island which covers only 6% of the total land area. Besides Trinidad and Tobago, there are other small islands in the nation, thus forming an archipelago. Tobago known as the jewel of the Caribbean is famous for its resorts and other tourist attracting features.

Unlike other Caribbean countries, the economy of Trinidad and Tobago is mainly dependant on the petroleum industry. Tourism is the second largest industry which generates a major source of revenue to the nation.

The Carnival celebrated in the Trinidad and Tobago is a famous festival which drew millions of visitors from every corner of the world.

 

Trinidad and Tobago has a lot of attractive places to see and enjoy. Some of the must see places are as follows. 

Asa Wright Nature Centre

Those who love nature will also love this nature centre. Situated on a vast 200 acre land, this park has some of the rare species of flora and fauna. Facilities are available to stay in the center’s inn and to go for exhilarating guided treks to the breeding grounds of oilbird’s situated in the Dunston Cave.

Balandra Bay

This beach remains as a paradise for those who love body surfing. Also most of the locals spend their weekends in this beach. This beach is also an ideal place for swimming and other water sport activities.

Caroni Bird Sanctuary

It is a different kind of bird sanctuary which is in the form of a large swamp filled with waterways and bounded by mangrove trees. This bird sanctuary remains as a home for a wide variety of birds including the rare ones. The middle of the sanctuary contains a number of islets which remains as a home for the scarlet ibis, the country’s national bird.

 

 

San Fernando Hill

The San Fernando Hill remains as one of the ironic and most popular land mark of the South Trinidad. On a clear day, an apparent view of Central and Southern Trinidad is guaranteed from the top of the hill.

Carnival

Among all the carnivals celebrated in the Caribbean countries, the Trinidad's Carnival is the best and is known as the King of all carnivals. The preparations for the carnival begin from the New Year day itself. Then a procession will be carried towards the downtown on the Monday before Ash Wednesday. Music and dance will be a highlighting feature in this carnival.
