Tourist Attractions in Dominica

The Commonwealth of Dominica, colloquially known as Dominica, is one of the most popularly visited tourist destinations in the Caribbean. It is an island nation with a total land area of 291 square miles and an estimated population of 75,000. The official capital of the Dominica is Roseau.
 
Dominica is also portrayed as the "Nature Isle of the Caribbean" because of its flawless beauty of the nature. Since the island is abundant in lush rainforests, spectacular mountains, majestic waterfalls and rare varieties of flora and fauna, the island remains as a paradise for the tourists. The major source of revenue for this island comes from the tourism industry followed by agriculture. The island is also popular because of its continuous geothermal-volcanic activity and the presence of boiling lake in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park.

Even after Columbus had explored, the island remains isolated for nearly a century. Later many Caribbean people settled in Dominica after being driven by the Europeans from the surrounding islands. France and Britain fought for the possession of the island. Afterwards Britain regained complete control over the island. The island was later colonized by the Britain in the year 1805. Dominica got independence in the year 1978.

Dominica has lots of attractions to see and enjoy. Some of the most popularly visited places are as follows.

Cabrits National Park

This vast park situated in 1,313acres. It has become the identification of Dominica. The park is now the home for a variety of flora and fauna including the rare ones. It also encompasses tropical forests, coral reefs, white sandy beaches, swamp etc. The other major attraction of the park is the Fort Shirley which is known for its hiking trails.

Boiling Lake

Boiling Lake, one of the natural wonders of Dominica drew millions of tourists every year. Here the lake keeps on emitting bubbles from its steamy water. Usually the temperature at the edge of the lake will be around 82 - 91.5°C with its centre keeps on boiling. The lake also has a credit of being the world's second largest actively boiling lake.

Victoria Waterfall

It is one of the most spectacular and photogenic waterfalls in the world which remains as a major tourist attraction in Dominica. This majestic waterfall is formed by the White river falling over a cliff.

Trafalgar Falls

These twin falls, commonly known as the Father and Mother has become the icon of Dominica. You can reach the summit of the falls after a 20-minute trek through vanilla orchids and ginger plantations.

Of the two falls, one is hot and the other is cool. The stream of the cold pool originates in the mountain and is joined near the hot mineral spring.

Morne Trois Pitons National Park

Most of the Dominica’s attractive sites such as Boeri Lake, Boiling Lake, Emerald Pool, Fresh Water Lake, Middleham Falls, Victoria Waterfall etc are present inside this park. This enormous park situated in 17,000 acres. It has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here you can witness the real beauty of the nature.
