Tourist Attractions in San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio is situated in south central Texas about 200 miles southwest of Houston and 150 miles north of the Mexican border. San Antonio is famous for its wonderful River Walk and the Alamo. Alamo is a national historic and holy place of Texan independence. This city is famous for its Hispanic traditions and large mixed population of Texan and Mexican, also called Tejano. This mixed tradition creates a unique community with the greatness of an Old Spanish colony. San Antonio is very interesting tourist place to visit, and it is possible to enjoy many cultural and historic attractions with large variety of entertainments.
The climate of San Antonio is very hot in summer particularly in July and august. It is cool in winter; some times it is very cold. The suitable periods to visit San Antonio are Fall and Spring.

There is a facility of daytrips or automobile tours out of San Antonio; it is really a great experience to have a half-day drive eastward to the wonderful white sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico at Corpus Christi. You can visit border town of Laredo by a half-day trip to southward. Prominent country music personalities Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson made Luckenbach, Texas, a small town as a famous one. It is really interesting to take a tour to northward through the German population of New Braunfels. Also there are some more interesting spots in the hill country such as LBJ Ranch of President Lyndon Johnson, and also the old German Population of Fredricksburg.

The Alamo and the River Walk

The Alamo and the River Walk are considered as the key tourist attractions in San Antonio, and these are the two major attractions in the whole state of Texas. The Alamo is a Spanish Mission in the heart of the city. This was the place where 189 Texas Patriots died, while defending themselves and their land from great Mexican army in 1836. The Mexican army was lead by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. The renowned frontiersman Davy Crockett and vibrant Texian knife fighter Jim Bowie are the famous defenders. You can also enjoy free trip to tiny museum situated in the renovated chapel to see the historical artifacts, the admission fee is absolutely free. You can watch the historic Battle of Alamo at the San Antonio IMAX Theatre Rivercenter and also at the Texas Adventure multimedia special effects theatre, both are situated in a single block of Alamo Square.

River Walk - The Paseo del Rio

Another major attraction is River Walk also called The Paseo del Rio. The major part of the San Antonio River, flows through the middle of downtown, and it has been converted in to a beautiful landscaped riparian valley. The banks of the valley are lined with trees, tropical flowers, twisty walkways and waterfalls. There are many restaurants, nightclubs, bars, shopping malls, shops with hotels and beautiful apartments for riverfront views. You can enjoy music and entertainment in River Walk on weekends. To get a wonderful riverfront view it is possible to go for a riverboat tour for just $5.25.
