Tourist Spots in Phoenix

Phoenix, situated in the state of Arizona is one of the largest cities of US by population and as well as by land area. The city is the capital and the largest of Arizona with an estimated population of 1,600,000. Also the city is the largest state capital of US by population.

The Metropolitan Area of Phoenix is one of the largest in the country which is a home to approximately 4,200,000 residents. Also the city is the county seat of Maricopa County.

The city was incorporated in the year 1881 near the Salt River. Phoenix also remains as the major economical, commercial, cultural and transportation center of the North America. The city has much political significance as it is the birth place of many influential politicians such as John McCain, Napolitano, Sandra Day O'Connor and many others. 

Previously the economy of the city was entirely depended on agriculture, especially on citrus and cotton farming. However in the last two decades, the city’s perspectives regarding the economy have changed a lot. The State of Arizona has been concentrating more in enhancing educational and research institutes, providing employment to the all etc. As a result many industries have shifted towards Phoenix. 

Tourism also plays a prominent role in the city with millions of people visiting the city every year. The warm climate in winter is something special in Phoenix which induces the tourists to repeatedly visit the city. The city is also renowned for its vibrant recreational activities especially the golf industry.

Phoenix has lots of attractions to see and enjoy. Some of the mostly liked and visited places in the city are as follows.

Desert Botanical Gardens

Desert Botanical Gardens, one of the beautiful places to see in Phoenix which preserves more than 20,000 specimens including the endangered ones. However emphasis is laid on the native flora especially for the succulent plants. This garden is very well known for its cactus collection which includes more than 1200 specimen. The right season to visit this garden is from March to May.

Mystery Castle

This architectural marvel situated near South Mountain is a compliment from a father to his daughter. What makes this building a spectacular one is that it is made up of using recycled bottles, bricks and granite. This enormous castle built in 8,000-square-foot includes 18 rooms, 13 fireplaces and other various interesting features.

Camelback Mountain

This mountain exactly resembles the hump of a camel. The mountain offers steep cliffs which even rise vertically to 200 feet and therefore this place remains as a favorite spot for the mountaineers.  Plenty of desert wildlife, particularly the small ones such as lizards, snakes, variety of birds, Antelope Squirrels etc can be seen here. 

Arizona Science Center

Arizona Science Center-a right place to visit for all age groups. In addition to hundreds of interactive exhibits, the center also features an IMAX Theater, a planetarium, live demonstrations etc.
